For those of you who haven’t heard of or didn’t get the chance to attend the infamous cake sale this year, have a look at our photos and read on to find out more as we recap all the best bits for you…
It was that time of the year again: cakes, theatre, friends and raising money for a good cause: West End Bake Off 2017! All of this unraveled in the lovely gardens of the St. Paul’s Church. With the warm glow of the shining sun, the day was prepped with all the right ingredients to make it truly memorable.
So, what actually is the West End Bake Off, we hear you eagerly ask, ears pricking up at the mention of sweet treats? Co-founded by friends Ben Stock & Sophie Simms., the event is held in aid of Acting for Others, a fundraising organisation for 15 UK theatrical and welfare charities.
Every major West End show (from Les Miserables to School of Rock and from Mamma Mia! to Iris Theatre) was present to show their beautiful bakings. There were lots of different cakes, scones, cupcakes – everything you could wish for, whatever your tastes.
In celebration of Iris Theatre’s 10th Birthday, we decided that this was the ideal opportunity to do something BIG. The gingerbread house is obviously going to be a important part of the upcoming Iris Theatre production: ‘Hansel & Gretel’. Therefore, artistic director Dan Winder wanted to make a big gingerbread house. More than 15 hours of baking went into creating this beauty, and we’re very excited to share photos with you so that its delicious memory lives on.
In total everyone raised just over £5000 – a fantastic amount made in just two hours! What an amazing turn out and effort from everyone involved.
